This January, we will offer our fourth Classical Yoga Teacher's Training Certification Program. This 200-hour, Yoga Alliance certified course is designed for aspiring teachers from all traditions who wish to increase the depth of their personal practice, as well as those who want to learn how to teach yoga.

Through the course, students will acquire practical hands-on training in classical yoga postures and philosophy, and learn how to teach yoga with depth, clarity and wisdom. This course draws from the ancient spiritual roots of yoga, and provides students an in depth, experiential understanding of the eight branches of yoga, and how they work together to influence your practice and your life. Instructors will include internationally known master teachers: Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati, guru and tantric yoga master; Mukunda Stiles, anatomy and structural yoga therapist; and Bhagavan Das, master of kirtan and yogic chant.

More Information Below:

An In-Depth Study of Classical Yoga
Learn to become a teacher of Classical Yoga in our Teacher’s Training Program. This course will take you more deeply into the experience of yoga as a moving meditation, and teach you how to bring the same experience to others. It will create a deep understanding of the asanas and their techniques, the power of pranayama, experiential anatomy, yoga philosophy and theory, meditation, mantra and mudra, and the ultimate goal of yoga: union; wholeness of being.

In addition, you will gain an understanding of four major paths of yoga: Raja Yoga, the eight-limbed path described by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras; Jnana Yoga, the path of intellectual study and introspection; Karma Yoga, the path of service and action; and Bhakti Yoga, the path of devotion. You will experience each of these paths personally, as you participate in the different parts of the course. At the end of the course, you will be well prepared to teach others the depth of classical yoga.

How Our Program Works

Our program consists of weekends over the course of six months, beginning January 2008. Training will be held in full groups, mentor groups, and with practicum partners. You will be required to take at least two yoga classes per week at Kashi Atlanta for the duration of the course.*

Our course surpasses the requirements of the Yoga Alliance and qualifies you to become a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance. Upon successful completion of this Level I Classical Yoga Teacher’s Training, you will receive a certificate from Kashi Atlanta, qualifying you as a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200-hour level.

Who We Are

Voted Best Yoga Studio in Creative Loafing's Best of Atlanta in 2000, and 2002-2005, Kashi Atlanta is an urban ashram and sanctuary that actively serves its community as a yoga center and a provider of service programs aiding people in need. A core group of committed individuals and the community as a whole contribute daily to creating and maintaining a space of spiritual community that encourages real healing and growth. Through yoga, service, and an interfaith spiritual environment, Kashi Atlanta provides an atmosphere that nourishes the body, mind, and spirit and encourages the integration of classical yogic principles into daily life.

Kashi Atlanta was founded in 1998 as Jaya Devi Yoga Studio, a small for-profit yoga studio. As the yoga studio’s service programs grew, founder Jaya Devi realized that yoga classes and community service programs formed a powerful alliance that could do tremendous good for the community. In May of 2000, Kashi Atlanta became a non-profit organization. Today, all profits from the yoga studio are used to support and expand the charitable service programs offered by the studio.

Since its inception, the mission of Kashi Atlanta has been one of education, service, and healing, with living roots in the teachings of Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati and Neem Karoli Baba. Kashi Atlanta is now an extension of Kashi Ashram in Sebastian, Florida, which was founded in 1977 by Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati.
