The
Word from the Streets -
September 27, 2006
Namaste,
There are so many ways to serve. There are so many
heart felt volunteer hours that go into our Street
Meals program. All
of the jobs meld finally into the end result…of
handing out the lunches to the guys and gals on the
streets.
First
off, we are grateful by the grace of our Guru , Ma
Jaya, and our Beloved teacher, Jaya Devi that this
program ever came to be. It was Ma that was taught
by her Guru, Baba, to “Feed Everyone.”
Every day, there is some action taking place to make
this program flow. There are many shoppers, order
placers, and people rounding up volunteers.
Tuesday evenings is when it all starts coming together.
Every Tuesday, our team leader, Giri Devi gets her
team in place and knocks out over 370 bagged lunches!
There are the regulars, volunteers from Hands
on Atlanta, and an assortment of other enthusiastic
folks. Last
night, we were graced by one of our local girl scout
troops. There were around ten of them, and they had
a blast! They all were a part of the assembly line
of sandwiches, drinks, snacks that go in the brown
bags with the words “Ma loves you” written
on them.
I
am not sure if they really know how important this
task really is. It enables us on Wednesdays to go
down and reach out to our friends in the shelter and
on the streets. The actual food is so appreciated
and it serves as a vehicle to be able to spend time
getting to know some beautiful people. Many of these
people, on a day to day basis, are ignored and not
given a chance to share who they are.
We
are truly the blessed ones that get to meet these
gems of the streets.
Forever grateful to serve,
The Kashi Atlanta Ma Jaya’s Street Meal team
