The
Word from the Streets -
August 9, 2006
Namaste,
In
the seven years we have been serving on the streets,
we sometimes lose contact with the people who we have
come to care so deeply about. Today we were reunited
with many of our guys that we haven’t seen in
awhile. Our fabulous drag queens surfaced today. Ms.
Chili Pepper was there in all her glory. She hugged
on everyone and laughed and carried on! Chili knows
how much we love her and that we love to spoil her.
Our
Ms. Pearl was at Central park, telling us how this
heat just ruins a “girls beautiful appearance!!!”
Pearl told us that it was just too hot to move around
or look good!
Many
of our friends told us about the parks turning off
the drinking fountains. They said that the city doesn’t
want them to use them. Many of the guys are always
so thirsty. Some stores let them fill up their empty
bottles with water. It is a shame that they can’t
use the water fountains. One of our friends said “
they really should turn them on…some guys get
angry and then damage them to get water and then the
water shoots out and it’s wasted.”
Mark
Thomas has a job now at a business called” Cooking
with Jesus” He is thrilled and now has a place
to stay. He has an apartment in town.
We
got some incredible news today. Connie (a woman that
we served years ago), is now in charge of a shelter.
It is so beautiful how service goes around.
