Kashi Atlanta's 2010 Classical Yoga Teachers Training

The whole course is totally phenomenal and transformational. I just love the way the course is designed and how we practice the entire eight limbed path. The whole experience with Swami Jaya Devi is divine to me. All the teachers here are very knowledgeable. I am thrilled with the experience and with my decision six months ago.

Explore the depth of Yoga in the New Year with our Classical Yoga Teachers Training Program. This February we will begin our 8th Classical Yoga Teachers Training Certification Program, led by Swami Jaya Devi, executive director of Kashi Atlanta. This 200-hour Yoga Alliance certified course is designed for aspiring teachers from all traditions who want to dive deeply into their personal practice, and learn to teach yoga with depth, clarity and wisdom.

This course draws from the ancient spiritual roots of yoga, which defines yoga as union, an experience of the wholeness of being. It is the union the universal soul and the individual soul as one. Also defined as discipline, yoga is a system of self-study that brings about a state of evolution and, ultimately, liberation. It is more than just flexibility of the body; it is a profoundly life-changing discipline of the entire being.

During our course, students will gain an experiential understanding of the eight limbs of yoga, and how they work together to influence and change your life, both on and off the matt. Instructors will include internationally reknowned yoga masters such as Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati, Guru and Tantric Yoga Master; Bhagavan Das, master kirtan (yogic chant) artist, and Mukunda Stiles, the creator and author of Structural Yoga Therapy and Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy, as well as our own senior yoga teachers.

Each weekend, students will delve into the physical, energetic, and spiritual aspects of yoga. Students will gain hands on experience through Experiential Anatomy and asana practice. We will explore each of the chakras in depth, learning how yoga asanas, meditation and breathwork affect each of the different chakras, and how to use the practices of yoga to keep the body’s energy centers open and available. Through a carefully guided exploration of breathwork (pranayama), students will be initiated into many of the classical yogic breaths and learn how to unleash the power of these breaths to clear the energy centers and open a free flow of energy through their being.

Throughout the course, students will delve into the ancient practices of meditation, and learn to calm and discipline the mind. These practices will also include an exploration of the Yoga of Sound. We will chant different mantras and kirtans, using vibration and intention to open the heart and focus the mind on higher realms. Students will also have an opportunity to take their yoga off the mat and practice karma yoga by creating and participating in a group community service project.

Since its inception, Kashi Atlanta has graduated over 175 certified yoga instructors. Each took the course for a different reason, and many have taken the course more than once. Some take it each year. Here is what a few of this year's graduates had to say :

A great course! Tons of information to absorb for a lifetime! ~ Anonymous 09

This has been an incredibly meaningful and memorable experience for me. I’ve learned so much about yoga – so much more than just the asanas and how to teach them – but also about myself. It seems like I have grown a great deal and learned many tools to continue my personal and spiritual growth . I learned so much from my teachers, but also from my peers and from the teaching practicums (invaluable).

It was a very welcoming, thoughtful and loving experience. I am also impressed by how well organized everything was.

This course has been transformative and phenomenal. It has challenged me to strict to achieve my personal best in all areas of my life – physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally. It also taught me a great deal about having compassion for myself while constantly striving to be a better person. Swami Jaya Devi, the teachers and staff demonstrated the highest degree of love, kindness, integrity and passion for not only this course but the students and the ashram which has made this a wonderfully safe place to grow and learn. Finally, this course has provided me with the tools to deal with the inevitable challenges of life while maintaining my balance and peace. Thank you!
