"The
Kids Art session on Saturday was so incredibly fulfilling.
We had a little girl attend who was 10 yrs old. She
was hooked up to a lot of stuff. She was so vibrant
and when we all talked with our sock puppets. Her
sock puppet named Angel said "everyone here is
so friendly, I love this world. Thank you for making
me". It really put things into perspective. I
am loving serving. Thank you for this opportunity."
Several
times a month the program goes
to the children's hospitals to make art projects with
the patients and their families. A team of four to
five volunteers visit Egleston and Scottish Rite Hospitals
where we have developed a close relationship with
the staff. Being in a hospital can be a scary and
uneasy situation for a child; by allowing them to
play and explore their creativity the kids feel a
measure of comfort and happiness.
Projects include sock puppets, butterfly mobiles,
holiday cards, beading and sculpty clay creatures,
and all can be completed within an hour. Art supplies
are donated or purchased with donated funds. The Kid's
Art program is not exclusive to hospitalized children
or even to children and will be seeking other opportunities
where art is needed to mend hearts.
